Field note · SEO / GEO

The screenshot is where the argument starts.

Search rankings tell you where a page sits. The answer itself tells you what the machine believes. Jason Colapietro wrote The Screenshotfor the moment those two records stop matching.

SEO gets the page found. GEO gets the source named.

Search engine optimization (SEO) improves crawlability, relevance, structure, and the path into a site. Generative engine optimization (GEO) improves the evidence and entity record an answer engine uses when it decides what to say. The work overlaps, but the finish line is different: a blue link can rank without becoming the recommendation.

Suede Labs AI runs full-stack GEO through Suede SEO. That means checking the real answers, repairing the pages and structured records behind them, and building the original material those systems can cite.

THE WORK

Three layers the book keeps coming back to

01

Be unambiguous

A search engine has to understand what a page is about. An answer engine also has to understand who said it, what entity the claim belongs to, and whether the surrounding record agrees.

02

Be checkable

Descriptions become stronger when names, dates, authorship, sources, and canonical URLs line up. A page should give a machine the same clean trail a skeptical reader would ask for.

03

Be worth naming

Technical cleanup earns eligibility. Original reporting, useful definitions, independent coverage, and a coherent body of work give an engine a reason to recommend one company over another.

The practical test

Ask the buying question before you touch the page.

Record the answer, the cited sources, the companies named, and the language used to describe them. Then work backward. The screenshot is not a score; it is the evidence that keeps the SEO and GEO work honest.
